THEME & CODE BY RSF THEMES

I have never watched an episode of Supernatural. I have no emotional connection with the characters.

But seeing the 10394819341039401983519813598 posts about it on my dash have made me inexplicably depressed.

I can’t handle this episode right now.

I think if you end up shaving off your nose, you’ve severely screwed up…I’m no expert though.

The Cycle of Abuse Illustrated Through Single Photos and Multiple Models

Statistics show that 70% of people who are abused as children will grow up into adults who will in turn abuse children. A recent awareness ad campaign by Mexican organization Save the Children shared this fact in single photographs that are both creative and difficult to stomach.

The advertisements were originally published back in May 2012, and were created by Mexican agency Y&R and photographer Ale Burset.

Each one uses five models showing one individual at different stages of life. In the foreground, the individual is experiencing abuse as a child. Older versions of the abused child grow up as they walk across the background of the frame, and turn into the original abuser by the time they walk a full circle.

“70% of abused children turn into abusive adults. Donate at savethechildren.mx,” the advertisements say.

This is incredibly powerful. I just finished an internship on the adolescent unit in a psychiatric hospital, where approximately 80-90% of the patients who came through had been abused in some way. Abuse, in all its shapes and forms, is very real in the world today, and it rears its ugly head in some families you wouldn’t even expect. Something needs to be done.

You wanna know the problem about having an anxiety disorder? When we hear you talking, we automatically think you’re talking about us. When you laugh in hushed tones, we think you’re laughing at us. When we know you hate us, it literally becomes the only thing on our minds. You wanna know the problem about having an anxiety disorder? It drives you insane.

Never have I seen a more accurate description. I’ve been working with my counselor on this…I know that I care WAY too much what people think of me, and that is a huge source of anxiety. So much so that sometimes I just go without speaking because I don’t want to come off as sounding stupid…even if it’s someone I know really well.

But seriously.

People will call celebrities by ridiculous stage names that were made-up to sound more unique, but they refuse to call trans* people the names they have chosen to match their gender identity.

If you can call Nicole Polizzi by the name Snooki, then you can call a trans* person by their chosen name.
